Congratulations on your new position.  Think of this as a "fresh start". This is an opportunity to start new and on a positive note.  Now that you have the job, we want to give you some tips to help this be a great experience and help ensure that this is a long term position.

Questions or Advice: If you need anything at all, we are always here for you.  Please call us if you are not sure about a situation or if you need help asking your employer a questions or talking about a topic. We want you to be happy and succeed.

Be Professional:  Show up on time (or early), dress appropriately, be positive, do not talk on your cell phone or txt friends all day, and try not to call in sick - especially in the beginning or during inconvenient weather.  Smile and have fun!

Keep Employment Boundaries During Conversations: This is by far the biggest issue that we hear from families after their nanny has begun employment with them.  A typical phone call regarding this issue is "We love our nanny, but we are a little concerned that the boundaries have been crossed between employer and employee.  We want to work this out, but we need your help to set expectations."  Always, always, always, did I say always, keep the conversation related to work and your responsibilities.  ***Do NOT cross the line and start talking about where you are going out, if you were hung over over the weekend, problems or fights with family members or boyfriends, ask them for financial advice, talk negatively about past employer or compare current employer to past employer.  Try really hard not to cry at work over personal problems.

Be Prepared:  It is a very long day at work if you are "winging it" all day with children.  Plan some activities.  We recommend creating a them for a week or a month and plan activities accordingly.  It is also recommended that you have the next week planned by Friday afternoon for the family to review.  We have some additional tips for you to the right.
